Course 6 in the Permobil Seating and Mobility Fundamentals Series. Understanding how and why to recommend individualized complex rehab technology equipment for end users is critical to their independence, function, and safety. There are no “standard” solutions when providing complex rehab technology. Each client is unique and deserves a system that is tailored to their individual needs and goals. Increased activity participation and decreased complications with body functions and structures should then facilitate improved quality of life for the client. It is critical to understand the process, and how to document the justification for the recommended solutions. This one-hour course will discuss the strategy for the documentation through case examples and best practice for equipment delivery and training on proper usage.

Instructor Information

Leslie Wade, MOT, OTR/L, ATP is an Occupational Therapist and Regional Clinical Education Manager for Permobil with a background in clinical practice, education, and program development. She joined Permobil in February of 2019 and supports Virginia, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Prior to this, she earned her Master of Occupational Therapy from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2002. She furthered her expertise by obtaining her Assistive Technology Professional certification and becoming a member of RESNA in 2022. Leslie’s career began as a full-time clinician, where she found her true calling in working with patients with spinal cord injuries, which highlighted the critical importance of proper seating and positioning. Her passion for this specialty led her to become an accomplished therapist in this field. In 2009, Leslie took on the role of VCU Health Safe Patient Handling and Mobility Champion. This position allowed her to gain extensive experience in program development, education, mentoring, and leadership. In addition to providing education in her territory, she is also a guest speaker at local Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy programs. Leslie has presented professionally at the International Seating Symposium and many industry conferences, sharing knowledge with a broader audience. Leslie resides in Richmond, VA with her husband and two beautiful girls.
