This 60-minute course will highlight the client presentation and justifications that are necessary to support documentation for complex rehabilitation technology (CRT). When documenting for CRT, it is necessary to understand the components of the clinical evaluation as they relate to equipment, using those findings to translate into seating and mobility goals as well as the language needed to justify specific equipment. This course will review key criteria to include when justifying the need for CRT manual wheelchairs, power assist devices, power wheelchairs, and seat functions. By the end of the course, clinicians will have a better understanding of how to document and justify their CRT recommendations effectively. The course will also highlight the basic components of writing an appeal, as well as how to utilize resources to help support documentation.

Instructor Information

Catherine Sweeney, PT, ATP/SMS: Catherine joined Permobil as Regional Clinical Education Manager in 2019. Prior to this, she spent the 24 of her 33 - year career at Providence Portland Medical Center, in Portland, Oregon, where she co - founded the outpatient seating clinic program in 2004. As lead seating specialist, Catherine worked to expand access to wheeled mobility services through staff education in OP satellite clinics, home health, and outlying Providence hospitals. She served as the RESNA PT SIG co - chair, and is co - founder of the Northwest Assistive Technology Access Coalition with a passion for improving Oregon Medicaid recipients' access to assistive technology. She has presented at multiple local, national, and international clinical conferences, including the RESNA and International Seating Symposium, on complex wheeled mobility topics.
