COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course will review important elements of the evaluation and justification process to give rehabilitation professionals and providers the tools necessary for obtaining approval for prescribed equipment. Current funding trends, federal regulations, alternative funding sources, and the importance of client as self-advocate throughout the process will also be discussed. Attendees will leave this course with immediately applicable strategies for building the best case for approval when it comes to their client?s functional mobility needs.
Learning Objectives: By the end of the presentation, participants will be able to:
- Identify three team members involved in the justification of recommended complex rehab technologies.
- Compare roles of three team member in the justification process for complex rehab technology.
- Explain three current funding trends as outlined in Medicare LCDs.
- Describe three resources and/or tools to strengthen documentation submitted to funding sources.
- Identify two possible alternative funding sources for CRT if denied by primary and/or secondary funding source.
- Discuss how to use two industry resources to assist in advocacy efforts for adequate CRT funding.

Instructor Information | Angela Regier, OTD, OTR/L, ATP received her doctorate of occupational therapy from Creighton University in 2007 and is a RESNA-certified assistive technology professional. Regier joined Permobil in 2017 as a Clinical Education Manager for the western region. Prior to joining Permobil, Regier was at Craig Hospital in Englewood, Colorado where her career focused on inpatient and outpatient spinal cord injury rehabilitation. Prior to leaving Craig Hospital, she was supervisor of the Wheelchair Seating and Mobility Clinic where she provided comprehensive seating and mobility interventions for individuals with acquired brain and spinal cord injury. Regier has published and speaks on the topic of seating and mobility for acquired brain injury and spinal cord injury. She has also served as an adjunct faculty for the Creighton University Entry-Level Distance OTD Program (Regis) in Denver, Colorado. |
