Medicare Reimbursement for Wheelchair Seat Cushions and Backs: Coverage Criteria and Documentation

This program is designed for Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants, Physical Therapists, Physical Therapy Assistants, Assistive Technology Professionals, and Medical Equipment Suppliers/Providers.

Leslie Wade, MOT, OTR/L, ATP received her Masters of Occupational Therapy from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2002. In 2022 she received her Assistive Technology Professional certification and is a member of RESNA. Leslie has been an invited speaker for several local conferences as well as for the 38th International Seating Symposium. She practiced occupational therapy as a full-time clinician from graduation to February 2019. In 2005 she followed her passion and specialized as a primary therapist for patients with spinal cord injuries. Through this she has learned the invaluable need for proper seating and positioning. Starting in 2009, Leslie served as the VCU Health Safe Patient Handling and Mobility Champion. This opportunity provided her with extensive experience in program development, education, mentoring, and leadership. Leslie has provided countless in-services for colleagues, as well as teach at the Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Nursing programs at VCU. Leslie has participated in hospital wide interdisciplinary initiatives focused on early mobilization, bariatrics, patient falls/safety, and spinal cord injury. Leslie joined Permobil as a Regional Clinical Education Manager in February of 2019.
